Purdue Road Race & Time Trial

April 7th, 2024

Hi! If you are on this page it is probably because you received our flyer in the mail notifying you of our bike race happening in your area. Please take a moment to read through this information to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

When will the race take place?
All races will be on Sunday April 7th, with riders on the road from about 7:30am until close to 5:00pm.

Who is responsible for the event?
We, the Purdue Cycling Club (PCC), are the hosts for the event, which is part of the Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference (MWCCC), and USA Cycling (USAC). The event is supported by the Indiana-Kentucky Cycling Association (INKY). Please direct any questions to pcc@purdue.edu.

How can I keep the racers safe on the road?
We ask that you don’t try to perform any dangerous overtaking maneuvres when the race is in front of you. This is to ensure the safety of our racers and your passengers in the vehicle. All segments of our race course will not be occupied by the race for more than a few minutes at a time, so you will be able to be on your way once the race has turned onto a different road. We thank you for your patience!

Please also keep all dogs/pets fenced in or on a leash so that they don’t run onto the road into the path of any bikes. This is for the animals’ safety as well as the people racing.

Who has authorized the event?
We have permission to run this event on both county and state roads. The Tippecanoe County Highway Department has authorized the use of all county roads on the map below. The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department has given permission to hold the race, and is providing traffic control support for the race.

What traffic controls are in place?
There will be either volunteers or deputies from the Sheriff’s Office located at all intersections. They may stop traffic temporarily to allow the race to have right of way, and then you will be allowed to proceed with caution. Please follow all instructions from both the police officers and the volunteers to ensure maximum safety for everyone involved.

Can I support the race at all?
Absolutely! We will have riders representing various midwest teams and colleges, including your very own Purdue Boilermakers! We love it when people put up yard signs, or sit out in front of their houses and cheer on the race. It’s like having a mini Tour de France in your own backyard — not many people get the opportunity to watch a bike race from their own homes! Some of the riders will be tackling nearly 80 miles, so make sure you cheer them on as they need all the energy they can get!

Are there any other races over the weekend?
Yes! We will be hosting a shorter circuit race (known as a ‘criterium’) on a closed course at Wea Ridge Middle and Elementary schools the day before, we encourage you to stop by and check it out.

I have more questions, whom do I contact for more information?
Please send us an email at pcc@purdue.edu, we would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Once again we want to thank you for your support and patience on Sunday April 7th. We don’t like to hold up traffic, but we get very few opportunities to race on the open roads so we appreciate your support as a local community. Months of planning have taken place to make this race successful, including working with the Sheriff’s Office and the County/State Highway Departments, so we want it to run as safely and smoothly as possible!
